About Us
Home-Start Cyprus WSBA is a local independent organisation with charitable objectives set up in 1989, which aims to help service families and families of the civilian component of British forces in Cyprus. Home-Start Cyprus WSBA supports families in two district bases which are part of the British forces in Cyprus (Episkopi & Akrotiri). Home-Start Cyprus WSBA has an office base in Episkopi. The service aims to build better lives for young children by encouraging parents to grow in confidence, strengthen their relationships with their children and connect to their local community. The service aims to increase the safety, wellbeing, confidence, and independence of families with at least one pre-school child or who are expecting a child, but it can support children up to the age of 12 years (dependent on their needs).
Home-Start Cyprus WSBA recruits and trains volunteers from the Western Sovereign Base Areas on Cyprus in Akrotiri and Episkopi. We then carefully match the volunteer with a family in need of support. Volunteers are from all walks of life, each and every one a parent or even grandparent, all with a little free time available each week to help provide emotional and practical help to local families. Support is confidential, flexible and totally responsive to the family’s needs.
Home-Start Cyprus WSBA is affiliated to the national organisation, Home-Start UK, but we are autonomous and responsible for our own management and securing our own funding. Home-Start UK provides advice and support through a local Family Services Specialist and a stringent Quality Assurance review process ensures the scheme operates effectively.
We have 4 members of staff. A team of 18 trained volunteers visit families at home and help support parents at the Family Groups.
